HP is the company that started a new trend when it introduced a dual-screen gaming laptop, allowing gamers to watch Twitch and play games at the same time.

Perhaps the craziest idea to mention here is Intel’s dual-screen laptop.

Intel also encourages the development of dual-screen laptops with fabric-covered bodies, and other common dual-screen devices.

However, all that strange design and hardware would be nothing without the software.

PC makers can experiment with hardware indefinitely, but they still have to rely on Microsoft to make Windows compatible with new laptop form factors.

Microsoft is currently preparing a lightweight version of Windows for dual-screen devices and devices that compete with Chromebooks.

Microsoft has noticed the efforts that OEMs and Intel are putting into dual-screen devices, and wants to be ready to support it.

Microsoft is slowly developing a new Composable Shell (C-Shell), alongside Windows Core OS, a modular version of the current Windows Shell that is being integrated into many components of Windows 10 today.

Software will be key, whether those dual-screen laptops are really popular or not.

But that won’t make things difficult for PC manufacturers.
