(Dan Tri) – The new Covid-19 outbreak in China caused the capital Beijing to block some areas, while the northwest region imposed a series of travel restrictions.

Reuters cited statistics from Chinese health authorities as saying that the country recorded 28 new cases of Covid-19 in the community on October 21, double the number of 13 cases a day before.

This number is relatively small compared to other parts of the world, but Chinese cities still quickly implemented measures to prevent outbreaks.

Officials in Changping district in northwest Beijing tested 35,000 people after the Chinese capital recorded new Covid-19 cases in recent days.

In addition to widespread testing, authorities in Beijing also increased contact tracing and tightened Covid-19 prevention measures.

Xuong Binh banned people in some high-risk areas from leaving residential areas, suspended in-person classes at schools near high-risk areas and ordered nearby businesses to cease operations.

Six cases of Covid-19 in the community, including several cases of the highly infectious Delta variant, were discovered this week in Beijing.

Beijing City has started a program to inject booster doses of Covid-19 vaccine, in which groups participating in the Olympics will be given priority to get vaccinated first.

The latest Covid-19 outbreak in China involves an elderly couple traveling with a group of tourists.

After they tested positive, dozens of cases were determined to be related to this couple.

The majority of the 70 community infections since October 16 were recorded in northwest China.

Chinese state television reported that about 12 cities in Gansu province, many of which have not yet recorded any community infections, suspended some long-distance bus services on the morning of October 22.

Several trains connecting Lanzhou, the capital of Gansu province, with the outer region were suspended, while only one flight from Lanzhou to Beijing was allowed to operate.

In Qinghai province, an airport has temporarily stopped serving transfer passengers.

All tourist attractions in Ningxia, and some in Gansu and Qinghai, have stopped accepting visitors.

Hundreds of flights have been suspended, while tourist resorts and schools have been closed due to the latest outbreak.

Officials in the Erenhot region in Inner Mongolia said entering and leaving the area is prohibited and people are not allowed to leave their living areas.
